It had to be young people who vandalized the portable toilets in Christie Pitts. Older people know about the shortage of public toilets. Public toilets are gold to the old. They would never vandalize such rare precious places.
I spoke to the serviceman who replaced the damaged portable toilets. I asked him whether it was common for people to damage them.
“It happens all the time,” he said. “Often, teenagers will set the toilets on fire.”
Am I leading a sheltered life? This is the first I heard of damage to portable toilets. But the serviceman said, “It happens all the time.”
One day, the toilet vandals will be old. Their bladders and bowels will make having to go to the bathroom a full-time job. They will discover the shortage of public toilets and realize how precious they are. And then each of the toilet vandals will think, “Oh my God! How horrible to have damaged those portable toilets. What was I thinking? I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”
